Optimist volunteers support the major fundraiser of the Optimist Club of Arlington, VA.

Annual Christmas Tree Sale

OPTIMIST MEMBERS: It’s time to start thinking about volunteering at the tree lot after Thanksgiving. The kids of Arlington need and deserve your time. Please sign up before you are assigned to the midnight until 6 a.m. shift (just kidding!). Here’s all the 411 we know:

The tree growers and workers are predicting a big year! The Lot Committee has met and is busy getting prepared. COVID protocols, if needed, will be adhered to.

We need you. This year Optimist members’ roles on the lot will primarily be “cashier.” Volunteers are expected to handle the labor and the coaches/adults to help manage.

Following up on the August edition of the Optimist newsletter, please let Sandy Bushue know your dates and times for the tree lot.

Sue Gartner and Peter Wehmann have already sent their dates and times to work the lot!

The working days with shifts and schedule are as follows:

Opening day – Friday, November 27:
Noon to 4:00 pm
4:00 pm to 8:00 pm
(Note – Sue and Pete selected the Noon – 4:00 pm shift)

Moving forward, the lot will be opened daily and here are the hours and shifts:
Saturday and Sunday:

9:00 am to 1:00 pm
1:00 pm to 5:00 pm
5:00 pm to 8:00 pm
(NOTE – Acorns are working all day on Saturday 12/12 and Sunday 12/13)

Monday thru Thursday:
2:00 pm to 5:00 pm
5:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Fridays:
Noon to 5:00 pm

A few historical facts:
Tuesdays are the slowest day on the tree lot. The second weekend followed by the third weekend are the biggest and busiest days on the tree lot. Tree growers are predicting a banner year because fewer people will probably be traveling this year due to COVID.

By the way, we are using the same grower from the last four years. Trees are from Galax, VA.

Each year the Optimist Club of Arlington sponsors a Christmas tree sale in the Wells Fargo parking lot at the corner of Glebe Road and Lee Highway in North Arlington.

What: The annual Christmas Tree Sales is the major fundraiser for the Optimist Club of Arlington and it helps support the many academic, civic, and sports programs that affect over 10,000 Arlington youth each year. If you would like to participate in the Optimist’s tree selling fundraiser, you can also make a donation. The Arlington Optimist Club is a 501(C)3 organization and your donation is tax deductible.

The lot has been around for over 70 years! Our trees are freshly cut from Galax, Virginia. We will have all sizes of fraser firs as well as scotch pines; plus wreaths, garlands, tree stands, and White House Christmas ornaments will also be offered.

Where: The lot is located near the corner of Lee Hwy / Glebe Road in the Wells Fargo parking lot.

Who: All workers on the lot are volunteers from the Arlington Community including youth athletic teams, high school Honor Societies, and Optimist members.
